Moko disease caused by the bacterium (Pseudomonas solanaceanum) was discovered to be causing serious losses in bananas and bluggoe in Grenada in 1978. The threat of this disease to the banana industry in Grenada and the Windward Islands in general, necessitated immediate action in trying to contain the disease and prevent its spread. A quick method of diseased plant eradication was developed by a Food and Agricultural Organization Consultant. Unfortunately, because of the limited time for this consultancy period further field and laboratory investigations were not undertaken. The problems encountered in the eradication programme are outlined and the extent of spread in the Island shown
