Genetic approaches to the identification and utilization of specific genes for rust resistance in wheat Informe Proceedings of the Technical Meeting on Rusts of Winter Cereals - Montevideo (Uruguay) IICA 1986 - p. 21-32 - Diálogo - Programa Cooperativo de Investigación Agrícola del Cono Sur (IICA) no. 13 .
39 ref. Sum. (En)
The three rust diseases of wheat are the most important amongst forty diseases and insects capable of causing economic losses to the crop. The loss can be greatly reduced by the use of resistant cultivars. A number of genes are known to confer resistance to rust diseases in wheat. For a better gene deployment, pyramiding and diversification it is necessary to know the genetic make up of existing commercial cultivars and breeding lines. Various methods to identify the specific resistance genes in a given variety are discussed
