The desert locust situation in the Caribbean Desert locusts in the Caribbean: proceedings - Port-of-Spain (Trinidad y Tobago) 1989 - p. 11-16 - Miscellaneous Publication A2/TT (IICA) no. 89-01 0534-5391 .

The paper reports outbrakes of locusts previously unknown in the Caribbean, especially, on the islands of Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, Barbados, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Lucia, Martinique, Dominica, Guadaloupe, Montserrat, Antigua and Barbuda, and St. Kitts and Nevis. It refers to the main invasion and the resurgence or second invasion. The paper then describes the possibilities for breeding and establishment that have generally been one of the major preoccupations and the action taken by the different countries. The recommendations given are applicable to the entire Caribbean: thresholds for control as well as guidelines for type of insecticides and equipment to use were provided by FAO through the FAO Resident Representatives; and, the situation should be monitored as closely as possible in order to discover whether breeding is taking place.
