El Consejo Regional de Cooperación Agrícola (CORECA) fue creado en noviembre de 1980 por los Ministros y Secretarios de Agricultura de Centroamérica, Panamá y República Dominicana, mediante la firma de un acuerdo de cooperación técnica con el Instituto Interamericano de Cooperación para la Agricultura (IICA), ejerciendo funciones de la Secretaría de Coordinación desde entonces. En 1984, se aprobó la integración de México al CORECA. En el desarrollo del CORECA se han definido tres etapas que involucran acciones de importancia en su vigencia institucional. En este documento, se expone la tercera etapa de un plan que tiene como objetivo general lograr la institucionalización definitiva de este foro de consulta de los Ministros de Agricultura de Centroamérica, Panamá, República Dominicana y México. El contenido informativo incluye lo siguiente: 1) antecedentes sobre el CORECA; 2) fundamentos de la cooperación del IICA hacia el CORECA; 3) enfoque regional del CORECA; y 4) marco operativo y estrategia general del CORECA. (ACH) The Regional Council for Agricultural Cooperation (CORECA) was created in November 1980 by the Ministers and Secretaries of Agriculture of Central America, Panama, and the Dominican Republic, by signing a technical cooperation agreement with the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA ), exercising functions of the Coordination Secretariat since then. In 1984, the integration of Mexico to CORECA was approved. In the development of CORECA, three stages have been defined that involve actions of importance in its institutional validity. This document presents the third stage of a plan whose general objective is to achieve the definitive institutionalization of this consultation forum of the Ministers of Agriculture of Central America, Panama, the Dominican Republic and Mexico. The informative content includes the following: 1) background on CORECA; 2) foundations of IICA's cooperation with CORECA; 3) regional focus of CORECA; and 4) operational framework and general strategy of CORECA
