Se analizó la vulnerabilidad de contaminación del acuífero por medio de la metodología DRASTIC y se identificaron las áreas críticas de la cuenca con base en la vulnerabilidad de contaminación y el uso actual de la tierra. Esto se logró por medio del uso de Sistemas de Información Geográfica. El principal problema en la cuenca es la deforestación masiva por la expansión de la frontera agrícola, es una zona de gran producción agropecuaria donde se destaca el cultivo de soja como principal fuente de ingreso. El reto principal es buscar un equilibrio entre la producción y la conservación de los recursos naturales. Según el índice DRASTIC, por sus características hidrogeológicas, la cuenca del Arroyo Capiibary presenta vulnerabilidad baja y vulnerabilidad media de contaminación del Acuífero Guaraní en toda su extensión. Difícilmente las aguas subterráneas lleguen a contaminarse, sin embargo, si esto llegara a ocurrir, la recuperación del acuífero sería casi imposible. Es indispensable tomar medidas preventivas que protejan esta gran riqueza almacenada en el subsuelo, priorizando las áreas críticas de la cuenca. |

Using Geographic Information Systems, underground water pollution vulnerability was analyzed through the use of DRASTIC methodology, afterwards, critical areas of the watershed were identified based on pollution vulnerability and current land use. Massive deforestation is considered the main problem in the watershed due to the expansion of agricultural areas. Soybean production is the most important income source in the studied area. The main challenge is to achieve a balance between production and natural resources conservation. Based on the DRASTIC index, due to its hydro-geological features, the Capiibary River Watershed presents low and medium vulnerability levels to pollution for the Guarani Aquifer in its whole extension. Underground water pollution is not likely to happen, on the other hand, these same hydro-geological features would almost make a further recovery of the aquifer impossible in case of pollution. Preventive actions to protect this most important water storage should be a priority, specially in critical areas of the watershed. |
