Summary, etc	En el municipio de Matiguás (Nicaragua) se realizó una investigación enfocada en relacionar la calidad del agua y la herpetofauna presente con el uso de suelo y bienestar de los productores. Para ello, se muestrearon los anfibios y reptiles en transectos (50m x 4 m) paralelamente a distancias fijas desde la fuente de agua. También se realizaron entrevistas semiestructuradas, a productores ganaderos (pequeños, medianos y grandes) con el fin de conocer su percepción sobre la calidad del agua y la biodiversidad y la relación con su bienestar. Los resultados en la parte social, reportan que los diferentes tipos de productores no presentan diferencias significativas (p menor que 0.05) en el índice por capitales, teniendo una percepción muy similar en cuanto a la biodiversidad y la calidad del agua. La gran mayoría de los entrevistados afirma que los sistemas silvopastoriles favorecen la calidad del agua y la herpetofauna presente en las fincas ganaderas. Se encontró un conocimiento local en la identificación de agua en subsuelo así como en usos tradicionales de las diferentes especies de fauna.

Summary, etc	This document presents results from five months field investigation of reptile and amphibian biodiversity in the pasture dominated landscape of Matiguás, Nicaragua. Field work included dry, transitional dry-wet and wet seasons of year 2007. Main objective of our study was to define existent relationship between water quality and the herpetofauna in the region to dominant landuses in the region. The results of the ANOVA demonstrate that there are no significant differences between farmer type (small, medium and large) and perceptions regarding water quality. Our interviews do show however that there is a lack of institutions that promote and finance projects related to water conservation, storage, and quality in Matiguás. Farmers interviewed mentioned that herpetofauna are mainly use as a source of medicines, food, and as biorregulators for agriculture system. Most farmers acknowledge that silvopastoral systems improve water quality and the herpetofauna conservation on cattle farms.
