El presente estudio se realizó en la cuenca alta del río San Pedro, Panamá, con el propósito de orientar acciones de recuperación de tierras degradadas. Para ello se partió de una base de conocimiento de fuentes secundarias, levantamiento de información de campo y de consulta a expertos. Utilizando el esquema de evaluación de tierras de la FAO (1985), el sistema automatizado de evaluación de tierras (ALES) (Rossiter et al 1993), y los Sistemas de Información Geográfica (SIG) se procesaron nueve modelos de evaluación de aptitud física para cada tipo de utilización de las tierras (TUT) propuestos. La evaluación de aptitud física indicó que el 75% del área tiene una aptitud para plantaciones de pino en la clases moderadamente (A2) y marginalmente apta (A3), el arroz en secano con un 62% en la clase marginalmente aptas (A3) y el pasto natural faragua con un 61% en las clases moderadamente (A2) y marginalmente aptas (A3). Se propusieron siete categorías de zonificación territorial: zona de protección, zona de desarrollo forestal, zona de restauración ecológica, zona de producción pecuaria, zona de producción agrícola, zona de asentamientos humanos y zona de infraestructura vial, las que se distribuyeron entre aspectos productivos (70%), conservación (24%), asentamiento humanos (5%) e infraestructura vial (1%). |

This study was conducted in the upper watershed of San Pedro River, Panama, in order to guide recovery actions of degraded lands. For this started from a base knowledge from secondary sources, field gathering information and expert consultation. Using the scheme of land evaluation of FAO (1985), the Automated Land Evaluation System (ALES) (Rossiter et al 1993), and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) it was processed nine models of assessing fitness for each type of land use (TUT) proposed. The fitness evaluation indicated that 75% of the area has an aptitude for pine plantations in moderate (A2) and marginally suitable (A3) class, rice in drought with 62% in the marginally suitable (A3) class and faragua natural grass with 61% in moderate (A2) and marginally suitable (A3) class. It were proposed seven territorial zoning categories: protection zone, forestry development zone, ecological restoration area, livestock production area, agricultural production area, human settlements area and road infrastructure area, which were distributed among productive aspects ( 70%), maintenance (24%), human settlement (5%) and road infrastructure (1%). |
