Con el fin de conocer las relaciones entre el recurso hídrico y las comunidades rurales en la región del trifinio (área fronteriza entre El Salvador, Honduras y Guatemala); además de identificar sus preferencias y disponibilidad a pagar que tienen los hogares por diferentes tecnologías de cosecha de agua de lluvia, en el marco de esta investigación, se estudiaron diferentes acciones respecto al manejo y gestión del recurso hídrico. El estudio se realizó en 18 comunidades de la microcuenca del río Olopa, en la región del Trifinio. Para ello, se realizó un muestreo aleatorio con 300 encuestas dirigidas a jefes de hogar, con base en un nivel de confianza del 95% y error de muestreo del 5%, para el cálculo del tamaño de la muestra. En la encuesta se recogió información para evaluar lo siguiente: las fuentes del recurso hídrico para consumo humano, uso doméstico y riego, por época del año; el consumo per cápita en litros por día por época del año; el tratamiento del agua para consumo humano; el acceso que las familias tienen al agua; y las medidas de adaptación a la sequía que las familias han adoptado para al almacenamiento del agua. Esta información se organizó en una base de datos en formato Excel y se trabajó en el software estadístico Infostat; para el análisis se utilizaron tablas de frecuencias, figuras y descripciones. En la encuesta también se evaluaron las preferencias declaradas de los hogares a través del método de experimento de elección, que es un método de valoración económica indirecto, a través del cual se puede valorar más de una alternativa en una encuesta. Con este método se investigó el grado de interés y las preferencias por tres tecnologías diferentes de cosecha de agua de lluvia, la disponibilidad a pagar (DAP) de los beneficiarios por dichas tecnologías, la relación existente entre la DAP y las características socioeconómicas de los hogares beneficiarios, así como las probabilidades y cambios en estas, con el aumento en precio de implementación. Con los coeficientes estimados en un modelo logit condicional con parámetros fijos, se estimó la DAP para cada tecnología de cosecha de agua evaluada. |

With the purpose of understanding the relationships between water resources and rural communities in the Trifinio region (border area between El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala); and identify their preferences and willingness to pay (WTP), with the homes, various technologies of rainwater harvesting, as part of this research various actions regarding water management were studied. The study was conducted in 18 communities in the watershed of Olopa River in the Trifinio region. To do so, a survey with a sample of 300 household heads was held, based on a confidence level of 95% and error sampling of 5% to calculate the sample size. In the survey the following information was collected: the sources of water resources for human consumption, domestic use and irrigation by season; per cápita consumption in liters per day per season; treatment of water for human consumption; access to water for families; and adaptation measures to drought that families have adopted for water storage. This information was organized in a database in Excel format and worked in the Infostat statistical software; for analyzing frequency tables, figures and descriptions were used. The survey stated household preferences through the method of choice experiment, which is an indirect economic valuation method, through which you can evaluate more than one alternative in a survey. With this method the degree of interest and preferences for three different technologies of rainwater harvesting, the willingness to pay (WTP) of beneficiaries for these technologies, the relationship between the WTP and the socioeconomic characteristics of the households investigated beneficiaries as well as the chances and changes in these, with the increase in price of implementation. With estimates in a conditional logit model with fixed parameters coefficients, the WTP was estimated for each water harvesting technology evaluated. |
