Se resumen los temas abordados en el taller internacional de expertos para analizar “la contribución de la agricultura y del medio rural al desarrollo sostenible y a la seguridad alimentaria en el nuevo contexto internacional”. La conclusión principal de ese esfuerzo es que, para solucionar la crisis actual y algunos de los principales problemas estructurales que los países de la región enfrentarán en el futuro, se requiere repensar el modelo de desarrollo vigente y revalorizar el papel de lo rural. Además, para potenciar el aporte del medio rural al desarrollo, se requiere revertir la tendencia histórica de subinvertir en él e invertir más y de mejor manera en la agricultura. |

The topics addressed in the international expert workshop are summarized to analyze “the contribution of agriculture and the rural milieu to sustainable development and food security in the new international context”. The main conclusion of this effort is that, to solve the current crisis and some of the main structural problems that the countries of the region will face in the future, it is necessary to rethink the current development model and revalue the role of rural areas. Furthermore, to enhance the contribution of rural areas to development, it is necessary to reverse the historical trend of underinvesting in it and investing more and better in agriculture. |
