La promoción de circuitos cortos en las cadenas agroalimentarias ha sido una tendencia emergente en los últimos años no solo en Europa y Estados Unidos sino también en América Latina. Los circuitos corto son sistemas agroalimentarios alternativos que agrupan diferentes formas de distribución caracterizadas principalmente por un número reducido (o incluso inexistente) de intermediarios entre consumidores y productores o por una limitada distancia geográfica entre ambos (Deverre y Lamine, 2010; Parker, 2005).<br/>Los circuitos cortos, en su origen, estuvieron principalmente vinculados a la demanda de proximidad social: los consumidores buscaban un contacto directo y la generación de relaciones de confianza con el productor. El creciente interés en los circuitos cortos responde también a exigencias de calidad y<br/>trazabilidad de consumidores alarmados por las crisis sanitarias en los mercados de alimentos (Renting y otros, 2003; Aubry y Kebir, 2013). El actual auge de los circuitos cortos se enmarca asimismo en el fortalecimiento del llamado consumo alimentario ético, el cual busca generar cambios sociales, económicos o ambientales a partir de las decisiones individuales sobre qué, cómo y cuándo comprar. El objetivo del presente boletin es presentar algunas experiencias de circuitos cortos provenientes tanto de América Latina como de otras partes del mundo, que permita a su vez identificar factores de éxito y lecciones aprendidas. |

In recent years, increasing attention has been given to promoting short agrifood supply chains, not only in Europe and the United States but also in Latin America. Short food supply chains are alternative agrifood systems that include different forms of distribution characterized mainly by few (or no) intermediaries between consumers and producers, or short geographical distances between them (Deverre and Lamine,<br/>2010; Parker, 2005).<br/>Originally, short food supply chains were associated primarily with a demand for social proximity: consumers wanted direct contact and relationships of trust with producers. The growing interest in short food supply chains also reflects consumer demand for quality and traceability, given the alarming health<br/>crises in food markets (Renting and others, 2003; Aubry and Kebir, 2013). It also reflects an increase in so-called ethical food consumption, the aim of which is to spur social, economic, or environmental change through individual decisions on what, how, and when to buy. This bulletin describes some specifc experiences with short food supply chains, both in Latin America<br/>and in other parts of the world, which have made it possible to identify success factors and lessons learned. |
