El estudio considera los impactos ambientales de la liberalización del comercio en América Latina y el Caribe, intentando analizar los principales cambios en las políticas comerciales de la región y las modificaciones e impacto en la composición y tasa de consumo de las distintas líneas de productos; también, trata de identificar las consecuencias ambientales de los cambios en los patrones comerciales , así como los desafíos del desarrollo económico y sostenible; por último, busca comprender la posición de las organizaciones de distintos sectores ante el reto de enfocar sus esfuerzos de innovación hacia prácticas sostenibles acordes a los cambios de los mercados. Concluye que la apertura comercial es un hecho en la región y que esta situación debe trasladarse a un control más definido de buenas prácticas de desarrollo sostenible, ya que existe evidencia de prácticas contaminantes del ambiente en las industrias extensivas. La expansión del comercio requiere de compromisos ambientales por país y regionales, creando oportunidades de negociación, aún cuando los problemas ambientales estén relacionados de forma mínima con la actividad comercial. Algunas estrategias que pueden utilizarse se basan en la creación de estándares con enfoque sostenible, el monitoreo constante y formal, la creación de normas, la implementación de transferencias tecnológicas enfocadas en la prevención y la certificación y ecoetiquetado a nivel regional y mundial. |

The study considers the environmental impacts of trade liberalization in Latin America and the Caribbean, attempting to analyze the main changes in trade policies in the region and the modifications and impact on the composition and rate of consumption of the different product lines; also, it tries to identify the environmental consequences of changes in trade patterns, as well as the challenges of economic and sustainable development; Finally, it seeks to understand the position of organizations from different sectors in the face of the challenge of focusing their innovation efforts towards sustainable practices in accordance with market changes. It concludes that trade liberalization is a fact in the region and that this situation should be transferred to a more defined control of good sustainable development practices, since there is evidence of practices that pollute the environment in extensive industries. The expansion of trade requires country and regional environmental commitments, creating opportunities for negotiation, even when environmental problems are minimally related to commercial activity. Some strategies that can be used are based on the creation of standards with a sustainable approach, constant and formal monitoring, the creation of standards, the implementation of technology transfers focused on prevention and certification and eco-labelling at the regional and global levels. |
