En el invernadero se estudió el efecto de fotoperiodos regulados (con luz natural y suplementaria) en clones y plantas de semilla del pasto jaragua Hyparrhenia rufa(Nees.) Stapf. En el primer experimento se obtuvo floración con 8, 10 y 12 horas y las plantas permanecieron en estado vegetativo con 14.16 y Día Solar (12 horas y 2-30 minutos). En el segundo experimento se tuvo floración en los fotoperiodos de 11.0, 11.5 y 12.0 horas. En el campo se tuvo sembradas las mismas introducciones de las plantas de semilla de los experimentos de invernadero: Hubo 20 introducciones sin regulación de luz y de ellas un grupo de 8 introducciones en 2 cámaras con un fotoperiodo de 10 horas. Estos resultados muestran que el fenómeno de floración, y estado vegetativo de estas plantas estuvo regulado por la longitud de los fotoperiodos siendo plantas de días cortos en sus necesidades para florecer. No se encontró mayor variabilidad en el número promedio de días que necesitaron las plantas de semilla para llegar al estado de floración. La primera floración es periódica cada año y en cada lugar. Hay un desbalance entre la floración y producción de forraje del jaragua pero es posible su mejoramiento con la selección de plantas de mejores características forrajeras en estas poblaciones o en material vegetativo proveniente de latitudes más altas que las de los lugares que incluyó este estudio de las partes más sureñas de África tropical. |

Photoperiodic effects were studied in the green house (with natural and supplementary light) in clones and seedlings of jaragua grass Hyparrhenia (Nees.) Stapf. In the first experiment flowering occurred with 8, 10 and 12 hours and the plants were vegetative in 14 and 16 hours, and Normal Day (12hours and 20-30 minutes). In the second experiment, there was flowering in 11.0, 11.5 and 12.0 hours and no flowering over after 90 days with 12.5 and 11.0 + 0.5 hours (dark period divided in two fractions). The flowering in Cañas, compared with Turrialba, was delayed most probably by the interaction of photoperiod and other climatic factors, such as high temperature and poor rain fall distribution. The critical photoperiod of jaragua grass is about 12.25 hours. The first flowering is periodic each year and, in each place, and there is a prolonged season of flowering when photoperiod is less than this. There is an unbalance between-flowering and forage production but its improvement may be possible by breeding selected plants of better for age characteristics in these populations, or from introduced material arising from higher latitudes than the places included in these experiments or the more southern parts of tropical Africa, center of origin of the species. |
