En este documento se cuantifica la contribución real de la agricultura a la economía de once países del Sistema Interamericano, mediante la utilización de matrices de contabilidad social (MCS) y la estimación de multiplicadores de encadenamiento. La agricultura se identifica como un importante sector proveedor de insumo y generador de valor agregado, y que desempeña un papel esencial en la distribución del ingreso entre las regiones urbanas y rurales. Este informe proporciona pruebas de que la inversión en agricultura favorece a toda la economía y que no debe ignorarse el impacto diferenciado de las políticas sectoriales en las regiones urbana y rural. El estudio evidencia claramente el importante papel que desempeña la agricultura en la promoción del desarrollo sostenible y en la incorporación de las comunidades rurales, especialmente las más pobres, en la dinámica de la economía |

This document quantifies the real contribution of agriculture to the economy of eleven countries of the Inter-American System, through the use of social accounting matrices (MCS) and the estimation of chain multipliers. Agriculture is identified as an important input-supplying sector and generator of added value, which plays an essential role in the distribution of income between urban and rural regions. This report provides evidence that investment in agriculture benefits the entire economy and that the differential impact of sectoral policies in urban and rural regions should not be ignored. The study clearly shows the important role that agriculture plays in promoting sustainable development and incorporating rural communities, especially the poorest, in the dynamics of the economy. |
