Thailand is searching for a new marine resource to meet its future demand for fishery products and to maintain the contribution of fisheries to the national economy. The cultivation of marine shrimp appears particularly advantageous as a means to expand productions for export. To obtain one unit of foreign exchange from this export would require only 0.55-0.77 units of domestic resources.
