In Costa Rica the first invasion was in 1870, followed by periodic recurrences, the most recent occurring in 1987. The control begun with the insecticide BHC, and later chlordane was used. The document refers to the transformation of CICLA into what is currently known as Organismo Internacional Regional de Sanidad Agropecuaria (OIRSA) and its participation in the fight against this pest.
