The document informs that Plant Pathologists from Brazil, Uruguay and Chile were given an intensive workshop on the isolation, identification and taxonomy of Phytophthora spp. a devastating pathogen of many of the world's major food crops. It was proposed a program on soilborne pathogens of fruit trees and the necessary technical support and equipment to carry out the research. The importance of soilborne plant pathogens in food production worldwide cannot be overemphasized. Implied in this proposed program is development of quarantine measures and nursery inspection to prevent the disemination of soilborne plant pathogens. (MIBA)
