They began in the 92/93 crop with five field trials. The cultivars recommended for Brazil were evaluated, for a total of 197 specimens, using pits in plots with ten repetitions. Besides the 117 specimens in the preliminary test phase, 53 cultivars recommended for growing in Mato Grosso do Sul and 117 samples of good agronomic quality are in their intermediate or final test phase. None of the specimens tested showed promising results for SCN resistance. 104 specimens of CNPSo's Germoplasm Active Bank were tested. Our of those, only fourteen showed to be promissory. Ongoing investigation incude race studies, a crossbreeding program for the creation of resistant cultivars and the occurrence of SCN in the State. (MV)
