The present project is set in the context of IICA's Medium Term Plan 1987-1991, which proposes to further encourage, promote and support the efforts of the member states to propel the development of the agricultural sector as a major source of economic growth, both as supplies of food stuffs for domestic consumption and as a major source of foreign exchange to intensify modernization and to increase production efficiency in the agricultural sector; and to increase regional cooperation among the countries of the region. The goal of this project is to contribute to the improvement of agricultural growth and rural development in the Americas. The purpose is to support concrete programme development and activities in the five areas of concentration as defined by IICA's Medium Term Plan.
