520			_aEl principal objetivo del proyecto es evaluar un acercamiento en la investigación participativa para el establecimiento de sistemas agroforestales en pequeñas parcelas en Rio Guayabo, Costa Rica. Esperando lograr un triángulo de solidaridad, tres entidades llegaron a un acuerdo para tomar parte en el acercamiento de investigación: PECALA, un grupo interdisciplinario en investigaciones en CATIE; IDA, el Instituto de Desarrollo Agrario, el cual da apoyo a la distribución de la tierra para pequeños agricultores; y 15 agricultroes en un asentamiento en Rio Guayabo. La investigación participativa en sistemas agroforestales, requiere tiempo e insumos pero es una buena forma de validación y diseminación de las tecnologías agroforestales mejorando la capacidad de los agricultores en afrontar problemas, haciendo la investigación más orientada a la situación del campo, mejorando la influencia de las instituciones gubernamentales para dar más cobertura en la región.
520			_aParticipatory research is becoming increasingly important with the recognition that farmers' participation in the research process facilitates innovation and enhances the adoption rate, but this approach is of limited use in agroforestry due to its demand on researcher's time, farm management and space. The main objective of the project was to evaluate a participatory research approach for the establishment of agroforestry systems in small farms in Rio Guayabo, Costa Rica. Expecting to achieve a triangular solidarity, three actors agreed to take part in the research approach: PECALA, an interdisciplinary group of researchers in CATIE, IDA, the national Agrarian Development Institute which is supports land distribution to small farmers, and 15 farmers in the Rio Guayabo settlement. Participatory research in agroforestry systems requires time and input but it is a good way of validation and dissemination of agroforestry technologies to the field enhancing farmers' capacity to tackle problems, making researchers' research more oriented to the field situation and improving governmental institutions' influence in the region.
