520 _aThe future of Saint Lucia's economy will largely depend on putting a stop to deforestation and other forms of environmental degradation. Forest resources must be placed under adecuate conservation practices. The Government of Saint Lucia has prepared a five-year National Forestry Action Plan which focuses on the five priority areas of FAO's Tropical Forestry Action Plan (TFAP) methodology: forestry in land use; conservation of forest ecosystems; fuelwood and energy; forest-based industries development; and institutions.
