520			_aEn el contexto del descalabro financiero mundial, la reciente crisis alimentaria, lejos de decrecer en importancia, ha llegado a convertirse en un factor estratégico que exige seguimiento continuo, análisis y acciones por parte de los actores públicos y privados que fomentan el desarrollo, quienes están interesados en evitar la posibilidad de que la mayoría de la población sucumba ante la pobreza y, por ende, vea reducida su capacidad para tener acceso a alimentos de calidad. Dado que cada país del continente enfrenta desafíos similares y, tomando en cuenta las acciones que emprenden al respecto, la finalidad de este artículo es proponer un nuevo modelo de desarrollo centrado en el potencial existente y en la contribución de la agricultura y la economía rural a la promoción de un desarrollo humano integral en las zonas rurales del continente.
520			_aIn the context of the global financial disaster, the recent food crisis, far from decreasing in importance, has become a strategic factor that requires continuous monitoring, analysis and actions by public and private actors that promote development, who are interested in avoiding the possibility that the majority of the population succumb to poverty and, therefore, see their ability to have access to quality food reduced. Given that each country on the continent faces similar challenges and, taking into account the actions they undertake in this regard, the purpose of this article is to propose a new development model focused on the existing potential and on the contribution of agriculture and the rural economy to promoting integral human development in rural areas of the continent.
