520			_aSe caracterizó molecularmente 63 genotipos de cacao Nacional y de otros orígenes, de los cuales solo 51 clones fueron caracterizados morfológicamente debido a la falta de flores y frutos durante el período de evaluación, además, se incluyeron dentro de este estudio tres genotipos de referencia de los tipos genéticos Trinitario (UF-676), Forastero amazónico (Matina) y el Criollo (Criollo-36). Para la caracterización molecular se utilizó la técnica de marcadores moleculares AFLP con siete combinaciones "enzima-primers" reportadas por Risterucci (2000) y Motamayor (2001), con el mayor número de bandas polimórficas en trabajos con los mismos marcadores moleculares en otros genotipos de cacao. Para la caracterización morfológica se utilizaron 34 variables cuantitativas y 13 cualitativas, se utilizó el tamaño de muestra para flores, frutos, semillas y hojas, recomendadas por Soria y Enríquez (1981) y el IBPGR (1981), para caracterizar clones y árboles de cacao. Finalmente se determinó que a través de la caracterización morfológica permitió identificar claramente 16 características que discriminan entre los clones de cacao tipo Nacional y otros orígenes, las cuales explican el 95,15 por ciento de la variabilidad presente en la población en estudio.
520			_aIn this study, 63 cacao Nacional genotypes and other origins were molecularly characterized. However only 51 clones were morphologically characterized since the left clones did not produce flowers and fruits during the evaluation period. In addition three genotypes of reference were included from the genetic groups "Trinitario" (UF 273), "Forastero Amazónico" (Matina) and "Criollo" (Criollo 36). For the molecular characterization the AFLP molecular markers with seven combinations of "enzyme-primer" as reported by Risterucci (2000) and Motamayor (2001) was used. They reported the major polymorphic bands in studies with the same molecular markers in other cacao genotypes. For the morphological characterization, 34 quantitative characteristics and 13 qualitative characteristics were utilized. The minimal sample for flowers, fruits and seeds recommended by Soria and Enríquez (1981) and IBPGR (1981) were used to characterize clones and cocoa trees. It is possible to observe that the morphological characterization clearly permits to identify 13 discriminant characteristics namely: sepal length/wide relation, ligule length, ligule length/wide relation, ovary length, ovary wide, ovule per ovary number, pod length/wide relation, shell weight, test weight, dry seed weight, seed length, seed wide, leaf length/wide relation, length/LBA relation and basal angle.
